Trainee recruitment

About the firm

Founded in 1999, the Endeavour Partnership enjoys a reputation as the leading business law firm based exclusively in the Tees Valley region, providing purely commercial legal services.

A niche practice, with seven partners and 18 fee earners, we advise businesses operating in various sectors within and outside of the region.  Our clients value our ability to understand their organisations, their needs and the issues they face, working with them to find the best solution and providing support and guidance when they need to call upon it.

In 2006 and 2007 Endeavour was nominated for three national awards – Legal Business' “Most Enterprising Law Firm of the Year” and, for two years in succession, the “Best Trainer of the Year, Small Firm” nominated by the Trainee Solicitors Group.  Chambers Student Guide 2007 commented that ”trainees with an interest in a career on Teesside should give this niche firm close inspection”. The firm has also been shortlisted at the LawCareers.Net national awards in the Best Recruiter – Small Firm category in each of the last three years.  If you are looking for a training contract within a Legal 500 rated regional firm, then you might want to consider the Endeavour Partnership.

Our trainees

We do not look for a perfect fit nor a specific ‘type’ for our firm.  We value individuality and the diversity that brings to our firm and so welcome applications from law and non-law graduates as well as from people who have spent part of their career working in other industry sectors.

Our lawyers are personable and pursue a wide range of outside interests.  Beyond the essential academic skills we look for trainees with the potential and ambition to develop their technical skills and knowledge and understanding of our clients’ businesses as well as being able to contribute to the firm.

Training with us

We aim to recruit two trainees each year.  We currently have four trainees and are proud that we have been able to retain three of our most recent trainees upon qualification and they are now solicitors in our commercial litigation, corporate & commercial and employment departments.

We are based in one office in Teesside and believe that we have the work / life balance about right.  Of course you can expect, on occasion, to have to stay beyond normal office hours, but we are pleased to be able to say that a 5 – 6 pm finish is not the exception.

As a firm we welcome our employees’ views and ideas and encourage our trainees to take part in that process.  You will be encouraged to take part in team meetings, firm meetings, business development and networking events as well as our social events.

You will work with partners, senior and assistant solicitors on a daily basis to receive excellent training in each of our employment, commercial litigation, commercial property and corporate & commercial departments.

You will spend six months in each department where you will have regular client contact and be encouraged to build on your own knowledge and keep abreast of legal developments.  You can expect to be called on to contribute to ongoing matters, contentious and transactional.

In addition to having a training principal throughout your training contract, you will also have a supervisor in each seat so you can be assured that you will not be left stranded.  Appraisals take place mid-seat and on the completion of the seat.

We will expect you to take responsibility, be proactive and show initiative as well as the other skills necessary, but throughout your time with us you will find that all of our solicitors and support staff are approachable and willing to provide support and guidance to you.

A competitive package

As a trainee, you will expect:

  • 25 days holiday per annum
  • membership of the firm’s pension scheme after three months’ service
  • death in service benefit
  • payment of PSC course and first sitting of exams
  • involvement in the firm’s social activities

The trainee recruitment process

In line with our equality statement on this website we adhere to the principle of non-discrimination and equality of opportunity in our trainee recruitment process.  Accordingly we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
